What jalebi actually is
Jalebi (জিলাপি) is a fermented batter piped in spirals into hot oil, fried until crisp, then dropped into syrup while still hot so it drinks the sweetness without going soft. The result should crackle slightly when you bite it.
It is a street sweet as much as a festival one — sold hot by weight from open pans across Bangladesh, especially through Ramadan, when jalebi appears on iftar tables everywhere.
How we make it
Jalebi does not keep, and that is the honest truth about it: the crispness is gone by the next day. We fry ours for your date rather than in advance, and we sell it by the pound the way it is sold back home.
Halal, no preservatives, two days' notice so we can plan the fry for your day.
When people order it
Ramadan and iftar above everything else, then Eid, weddings and winter gatherings. It is also the sweet people add to an order when there are children coming.
Questions we get asked
How much is a pound?
A pound of jalebi is a generous platter — enough to put out for a gathering rather than a single family dessert.
Will it still be crisp when it arrives?
It is at its best the day it is fried, which is why we make it for your date. Ask for it on the day of your event rather than ahead of it.
Can I order jalebi for iftar during Ramadan?
Yes, and it is our busiest jalebi period — message early in Ramadan to get the dates you want.
